Who is Charlie Floyd? I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2002 with a degree in Letters. Then I decided to get a second BA in German and spent the spring finishing my degree requirements at the Karl-Franzens Universitaet in Graz, Austria. Now I'm at the University of Chicago Law School and loving every minute.
This is my story, day by day.

Anybody catch the Democratic debate this morning? Interesting stuff. If you've got high-speed, go here for some recaps.

Assuming you already know how to peel the edges after the egg sets, and you have your folding technique down, the real key to a great Sunday mid-morning omelette is simple: saute the veggies before you put them in the omelette. I'm still getting my timing down, but this morning I had crisp hot bell pepper and onion ready to go right on top of the mozzarella in my Sunday omelette. I think what makes it so much better, besides the nice flavor, is that it doesn't suddenly lower the heat of the partially cooked egg, so you end up with a fluffier omelette.

If you're not making a Sunday omelette, you're not living.

I'm tired of coffee, so I've switched to tea. I like it very much. It's especially nice in the early evenings, when a little wakeup is nice but you don't need the full 100mg of caffeine that a cup of coffee gives you. So me being me, I like to think I'm doing things the "right" way. I looked around and found this BBC site about how to make an excellent cuppa. The animation concerning adding milk is especially informative. And man am I a dork. At least, a dork who enjoys tea done right.

I forgot to mention: I buzzed my head. I think it looks alright. The close-cropped look has become much more professional these days. So I put the 1/4-inch guard on the clippers and went at it. Now I look like this guy. In theory. Awesome.

Things have been fun and intense lately.

Catching up, last weekend was the law school musical "Mary Lawpins." I played Judge Richard Posner. We sang, we danced, we drank, we made merciless but equal-opportunity fun of students, factulty, staff, and administration at the law school. For pictures, see my buddy Rich's (Scalia) site here.

Leading up to the musical was a week filled with rehearsals for 3-5 hours per night. So I didn't worry about posting. And the week before that was when I turned in my big quarterly research assignment, so I just stopped worrying about anything for a few days.

Sunday night I played Monopoly with four fellow students and our Property professor. We bought the opportunity to play with him in a law school charity auction. He supplied the pizza, dessert and beer, and we played the game for nearly five hours. It was a blast. I recommend dusting off Monopoly some Saturday night and playing.

This week has been all studying. If you didn't know, we law students have our entire grade based on a single exam for each class at the end of the term. Mine for this quarter are two weeks away, so I've got to get it together.

In other news, unless something drastic changes, I'll be somewhere in Oklahoma this summer. More on that later...

Finally-- I just want to share how good the faculty here is. Everybody's a start. The range of thinkers, unlike many other places, is actually diverse, not fake-diverse with token left- or right-wingers. For more, see here. Just read random articles. The professors I've had or will have this year include Sunstein, Eric Posner, and Epstein as well as many others. And I've had the chance to listen to so many others speak. It's actually pretty cool. If you're a geek like I am.

I'll try to do this more often.

Holla.

This appeal was taken from an order sustaining preliminary objections in the nature of a demurrer to appelleant's pro se complaint in assumpsit. The trial court held that a contract had not been made and that there could be no recovery on quantum meruit...

Gotta love Contracts.

Miracle was really great. It was exactly what I expected: an uplifting movie ala Remember the Titans or Rudy. It didn't make me cry, though, but I think that's because I knew the ending.

And yes, I teared up at those movies. Any guy who hasn't had wet eyes after one of those movies has no soul. Or is lying. Or hasn't seen Old Yeller. They had to shoot that poor amazing dog. They had to.... sorry, going to need a moment.

I'm going to see Miracle today. I can't wait. Hopefully it's as good as promised...

(courtesy...me. There's another Charlie Floyd out there! Ahhhhhh! This act of aggression will not stand! But his music's not terrible... I just wonder what's going to happen when potential employers or dates Googlestalk me and see this guy.)

Enjoy. I'm going to have a nice little Saturday of studying for exams that are three (!) weeks away. And maybe some poker later.

I was asked in an email who I thought the greatest American rock 'n' roll band was. As many of you know, I'm a list person, so here's my top ten.
These are chosen by influence, statement, longevity, and rockability. Note that the JHE didn't have longevity but tops the list on the others. Earlier great influences such as Buddy Holly and the Crickets may have had high influence but low rock quotient.

1) The Jimi Hendrix Experience
2) Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band
3) The Doors
4) Pearl Jam
5) The Beach Boys
6) Metallica
7) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
8) Creedence Clearwater Revival
9) Nirvana
10)The Band (including work with Dylan)

Honorable mention: GNR

Your turn.

Okay, if you don't mind, a favor for David Bassity (and entertainment on the side):

Go here, the Channel 9 DreamWedding site. Vote for Molly Warren and Michael Largent. This guy is one of Super Dave's buddies and we want him to win.

Awesome.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hang on to any of the new State of Oklahoma quarters. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents. The U.S. Treasury announced today that it is recalling all of the Kansas quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state.

"We are recalling all the new Oklahoma quarters that were recently issued," Treasury Undersecretary Jack Shackleford said Friday. "This action is being taken after numerous reports that the new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices." The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states joined the U.S. and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors worldwide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Oklahoma quarter, which was created by an Oklahoma State University graduate," Shackleford said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices."

From Doug Jacobson, a fellow 1L down at OU:

I'm going to need you to go ahead and update your day to day activities on your website at a faster pace. How else am I supposed to waste time not studying or writing papers? In other words I can't live my life vicariously though you in Chicago unless I know what's happening. Last post was Saturday and that is unacceptable.

My adoring public is hungry for more. Alright, Douglas, you damn tortfeasor, let's see. I've got a big assignment due Monday about homemade machine guns and whether Congress can regulate them. This is filling the 3-4 hours out of every 24 I hadn't already booked. It's also cutting in on my sleep. But that happens. What do you have to write about?

I'm also in the law school musical. The theme is top secret, and since law kids also read this site, I can't tell the details. But I play an appellate judge, and I'm in a musical number where we dance like N'Sync. Well, as much like N'Sync as chubby slow law students can. It completely reminds me of when we used to do Sooner Scandals, Doug, except there are no sorority girls for miles. Miles and miles and miles. Damn. Remember not making auditions ever? That was fun. I sure felt cool when our boxsteps and grapevines weren't up to par with the Betas. Those were the good old days...

So I tutor neighborhood kids on Thursdays. Last week, one little girl asked me why I bothered to be there helping, and I told her that I was there out of the kindness of my heart. And that she should shut the hell up and read quietly. Okay, I made up that last part. But I'm not making this up: after I said the part about the kindness of my heart, she said, "Oh, so you thought you'd come on down to the South Side and help out all us poor stupid black kids? That's so nice of you!" Gotta love my neighborhood.

Did anybody else see Janet's special jewelry at the Superbowl? Unbelievable! I haven't decided whether I think it was intentional.

There you go, Jacobson. Hope you enjoyed. You should come up with Body and Purnell over Spring Break. I'll get you an airbed and everything...
